Despite the rain this year's Oscar protest attracted more than 540 visual effects artists and supporters. That number is about 10% larger than the the previous year. It was well planned with organizers distributing green t-shirts and umbrellas to anybody who needed one.

I'm proud to have been in attendance. Congratulations to everyone who helped make this event a success! Webcast from New Zealand, India, London, Brazil, Vancouver, Quebec, San Francisco, Austin and Hollywood. Buttons with, "I Am VFX Soldier" were handed out. Issues discussed: lack of harmony, subsidies, impact of traveling/moving families, fixed bids (no changes), long hours, unpaid overtime, misclassification, healthcare (USA), residuals and royalties, need for post production supervision (to keep projects on track), need for truly international union, fear, big-six studios, need for standardized contracts, need for VFX industry specific lobbyists. Best of luck to all involved!
